A seven month span of time can be arduous to summarize in a blog entry. In doing so, it’s paramount to shoot for the watershed moments in order to bridge this vast divide. Fortunately for the purpose of this entry, there were quite a few. Let’s start with the turn of the year:

Recession! Economy FAIL! New President to the rescue! For small businesses, all this meant a chance to either get pretty creative or start the 'fUnemployment'. We, of course, chose to pursue the former. Reaching out to clients who still needed quality design but didn’t quite have the budgets they did in the good ol' days, we were able to carve ourselves out a niche and are therefore still standing.

Winter XGames 13 came around to close out the month of January. We changed up the format of our media guide and came up with a rather nifty, top-bound, steno-pad type "Survival Game" that members of the media could clip onto their lanyards while trudging through the snowy Aspen terrain.

John "Chimmy" Chiembanchong takes a wife! With WORK founder and CEO, Jonathan Wang, in attendance, Chimmy and his Joy skip off to Hawaii for some good old-fashioned nuptials. Photographic documentation provides evidence that Chimmy did a lot of smiling during this momentous occasion despite the fact that he dearly missed his co-workers.

WORK teams up with Digital Organics and Warner Brothers Television to create a sweepstakes microsite to promote the release of Harry Potter 6 tying in featured Warner Brothers shows. Users could log in multiple times throughout the day through three different show portal sites to enter a "magic word" to enter the sweepstakes to win daily prizes or a grand prize trip to London for the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince premiere! The microsite was a huge success for all parties involved.

The late-April Warner Brothers / Harry Potter sweepstakes campaign was such a hit that many U.S. markets that had been left out of the first promo round decided that they wanted a piece of the action. By mid-June, WORK launches the Harry Potter microsite one more time, opening participation up to almost 30 new cities across the U.S.!

X Games 15!! We love this time of year! After bringing home Platinum in last year’s League Of American Communications Professionals (LACP) Spotlight Awards, we figured we better try to step it up. This year: glossy magazines inspired by vintage Thrasher magazines.

    X GAMES 15 MEDIA GUIDE

For us here at WORK, X Games 15 marks our fourth year of producing the media guides, a project we love so much. This summer games, we decided we would go old school, too, by paying homage to the magazine that provided us our first memories of the glorious extreme sports world of yesteryear. The product speaks for itself: A 52-page, glossy magazine complete with pages in color! And this year we designed four different covers representing the four disciplines—Moto X, Skateboard, Rally Car, and BMX—in a style that recalls the early magazine covers of Thrasher (but it's almost impossible to not catch that reference...)

HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE

Everybody loves free stuff! It's a pretty easy concept to grasp and really, a no-brainer when it comes to figuring out the success today's interactive sweepstakes marketing. These days, you can't release any product without some kind of sweepstakes to promote it...even if you're Harry Potter.

    SCHWARZKOPF PROFESSIONAL ASK ACADEMY

The Schwarzkopf Professional Academies provide a dynamic selection of seminars & workshops for the creative and technically advanced hairdressers. In 2009, ASK Academy, originally located only in New York, added seminar courses to facilities in St. Louis and Denver and added new instructors to its already impressive staff roster.
