we graphic design

Eat.Sleep.Work., Inc. is a print and web design agency who produces high-quality marketing and advertising collateral.

We don't graphic design for design's sake. We graphic design as a means to communicate. We consult our clients to achieve design solutions that are as true to function as they are to form for maximum return-on-investment.

We are a Los Angeles company based in El Segundo that came together in 2005 as just a couple of BFFs who design, develop, and know a thing or two about marketing. We have since collected quite a few more BFFs inside and outside of the office. We like it when you stick around so we do everything it takes to make ourselves available as your company grows and changes. In our working relationship, BFF-ness is inevitable.

Eat.Sleep.Work. believes that we do our best work when we keep our clients close. So as for relationships, we're looking for something a little more long-term...but if you just wanna take a little roll in the hay, we don't mind.

Our name speaks volumes about our work ethic. We are tireless and hungry, a product of the volatility of the marketplace as it is today. We have weathered the current storm with our ability to adapt to the growing need for versatile designers. We are the production house that fits snugly into your back pocket and the creative agency that doesn’t cost you a fortune. Reliable, efficient, tenacious and affordable: our nose is never far from the grindstone.

Five years from now, we will be perched upon a DECADE of success stories. We started out as a group of hard-working creatives with our eye on the future and we continue to set goals and high expectations of ourselves. We are driven by our desire to achieve greatness in every endeavor so our clients appreciate the care we take with their projects. For us, every new client brings a warmly-welcomed brand new set of challenges allowing for our own professional growth.

Print Design

Great things come in great packaging

Print design covers a wide range of tangibles. Print collateral helps enliven a client or customer’s hands-on brand experience for which there truly is no substitute.

Our broad repertoire of print services includes everything from brochure and book design to large scale car wraps and trade show banners. We work with only the best printers to get the richest color and paper quality to ensure your print pieces reflect the superiority of your product. Our printers are green friendly, FSC certified and use soy-based inks. We will personally go to press checks so that your job comes out in the right color, cut, and placement for your project.

We have created award-winning print design and identity standards for our clients. Although we do not position ourselves as a print shop first and foremost, our print skills stack up with many of the finer traditional design firms.

ESPN X Games Event Media

A Case Study on the Summer & Winter X Games

WORK BMX Bikes

If you have ever visited our Santa Monica office, you might have noticed the BMX bikes hanging upside-down from a pulley system on our ceiling or the surfboard leaning against the wall, still wet from a morning surf. "Cough, cough," we might hear on the phone from an opportunistic employee after a good snowfall. At WORK, there is no lack of enthusiasm for action sports so when ESPN Event Media approached us in 2006 to create a Media Guide for the Summer X Games, we pounced on the project. Having a limited budget but a high standard for design quality, our client sought to restore some glory to the guides they distributed to members of the media at their Summer and Winter games. They also wanted guides that adhere to green standards so it was crucial to work with printers that could produce books on recycled paper using soy-based inks.

While budgets run small for the X Games Media Guides, WORK has been granted almost full creative license. This allows us the opportunity to experiment with various formats, paper stocks, printing techniques, and design themes. Given our passion and familiarity with the subject matter, we have turned out some impressive and ambitious pieces. Our approach to the design and execution of the media guides has evolved since first taking on the project in 2006. Then, we created 52-paged black and white spiral bound booklets with full-color cover designs. While our client was more than happy with the results, we personally outgrew this formula and began to experiment.

Given a slightly larger budget to create a special media guide for the Moto X Games in 2008, we created full-color, saddle-stitched books. For the cover, we simulated the effect of a mud-splattered tire tread mark using emboss with black foil on black card stock.

Later that year, we decided to up the ante a bit further, using silver foil to stamp out a pattern of technical line art of the various mechanical tidbits that make up the Summer X Games sporting equipment. The interior pages, while not in color, carry out the highly illustrative motif of the cover. Fortunately, we don't have to toot our own horn on this one. The League of American Communications Professionals (LACP) did us that honor by awarding us with Platinum for excellence in the Media Guide category.

The X Games Media Guide project continues to engage and challenge us as we creatively push ourselves to take each new book to a new level. We try to push the envelope as far as we can, delivering to the members of the media something they can enjoy and remember from their experience covering the X Games. With them in mind, we are always thinking about what suits their needs best.

In Winter 2009, this meant creating a narrow, top-spiral bound book that could be clipped to ones lanyard for those in the snow who needed to keep their guides close but their hands free. In the future, we will continue to experiment with book formats and printing techniques, using feedback from those who read it to drive us towards our next solution.

Agency Collaboration

Hello agencies! Room for one more at your table?

In a perfect world, you have a team of competent designers right next door to you at all times. Realistically in today’s economy, in-house production teams are a rarity and when they do exist, their capabilities are often limited. Our diverse range of services make us the desirable third party when it comes to outsourcing your production work. We keep our overhead low so our rates remain competitive without detracting from the quality of our output. But most importantly, we (A) take our client relationships very seriously so that our client (B) remains solidly in control so that they (B) keep their clients (C) happy and their product, whether it be in the medium of print (A1) or web (A2) fulfills their expectation. (See figure 1 to the left.)

Warner Bros. Television (C) via the advertising agency (B) >> WORK (A)

Our working relationship with Warner Bros. Television developed through collaboration with our direct client, an advertising agency. Late in 2007, budget restraints forced Warner Bros. to seek help from the outside to complete a large run of animated web banners. They sought out the help of the advertising agency who immediately reached out to their trusted production team from down the street: us!

King’s Hawaiian (C) via Brand 33 (B) >> WORK (A)

Brand 33 is a successful advertising agency with an in-house staff of designers specializing in print. They’re also long-time fans of the production services we have been providing over the last several years. Hence, it was a no-brainer when this print-savvy agency picked up King’s Hawaiian as a client that they would approach us with all of their web-based production requirements.

We also helped them run a national recipe contest, building a table-heavy database and providing detailed contest reports.
